Ozark Tourism Expansion Project

This project will enable Ozark Vitality to bring accomplished filmmakers into the southeast Missouri Ozarks, as part of an artist-in-residence program, to develop high quality short documentary films for the My Ozarks documentary film series. The videos in this series will generate economic opportunities for artisans and local businesses across the region by expanding the limited tourism season, by time and variety of activities, and expanding the markets for artisan goods and cultural experiences available to tourists when they come to the area.

Ozark Vitality is currently seeking funding for this two-year $400,000+ project to expand regional tourism for economic resilience and provide career opportunities for media professionals and filmmakers in the Ozarks. In partnership with the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce, and with support from Missouri Humanities Council, Carter County Commissioners, and the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, Ozark Vitality has raised $121,000 in match funding and applied to the US Economic Development Administration’s Disaster Recovery and Resilience Funding for 2017 disasters to provide the remainder of funding necessary for the project.
